Alternative Optical Acquisition Technique for Supporting Reverse Engineering Process

Suchada Rianmora and Molticha Rangsiyangkoon
Abstract—In product development phase, Reverse Engineering (RE) can help to rapidly create the design of the new product while satisfying the customer’s satisfaction. Optical acquisition technology can be applied in data acquisition phase of RE process to minimize time and number of activities. Time spent for accomplishing RE process and the accuracy of the surface finish (3D virtual model) depend upon the method selected for acquiring an entire surface of an existing part. This research introduces the acquisition system by using optical acquisition technologies where 3D laser scanner, displacement sensor, and digital camera have been presented and discussed.

Index Terms—Laser processing technology, reverse engineering (re), data acquisition, optical signal processing, and 3d triangulation process.
